Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identity the image of nurses and the level of career identity and the relationship between them in nursing students. Method: The subjects were 273 nursing students of P university in B city. Data were collected from March 6th to 12th, 2012 using a self-reported questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS win 18.0 statistics program. Result: The participants aged 18 to 30 years(mean: 19.81). The average score of image of nurses and career identity were 103.91 (score ranged of 28-140), and 35.92(score ranged 14-56), respectively. There was a significant difference in the image of nurses according to grade, college students` satisfaction of college entrance and current satisfaction with nursing. There was a significant difference in a career identity according to grade, religion, college students` satisfaction of college entrance and current satisfaction with nursing. Image of nurses was positively correlated with career identity. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that faculty should develop teaching strategies in order to enhance the positive image of nurses and the level of career identity for nursing students.
